The “Mysterious Voice” That Turned a Jewelry Design Challenge into a Journey of Discovering Someone’s True Identity
TIMELESS AURA — Beauty Beyond Time: When Jewelry Design Begins with Understanding the Wearer in the COOL TO BE GREY Challenge

How Can You Design Jewelry for Someone When You Don’t Even Know Who They Are?
This was the starting point of Challenge 07 of The Cut Reality, under the theme COOL TO BE GREY, which challenged contestants to design jewelry for the Silver Age generation.
The creations needed to reflect each wearer’s personality and individuality while remaining practical for special occasions, whether social gatherings, formal events, or art and cultural experiences.
The challenge went far beyond designing jewelry that was simply age-appropriate. It required us to understand who the wearer truly was, what they loved, and what kind of jewelry would make them feel confident and comfortable at special events.
What made this challenge particularly intriguing was that the contestants were not initially told who their clients would be.
Instead, the competition began with three mysterious voice recordings from renowned senior actresses:
Duangdao Jarujinda
Duangjai Hathaikarn
Yo Tassawan Seneewong Na Ayutthaya
Each team then drew lots to determine which mysterious voice would become the inspiration for its design.
CREW CUTTERS drew Voice No. 3.
With only a voice recording as our starting point, we had to uncover the identity of the person behind it before researching her personality, preferences, and lifestyle to create jewelry that would genuinely suit her.
After further research, our team believed that the mysterious voice belonged to Yo Tassawan.
And with that discovery, the direction of our challenge gradually became clearer.
When Jewelry Design Begins with Understanding the Client

Through our research, the team began to discover the personality of Yo Tassawan, a 75-year-old woman who remains energetic, vibrant, and actively engaged in life — a wonderful example of Active Aging.
Yo has a distinctive sense of style that is more sophisticated and effortlessly cool than traditionally feminine. She has a deep appreciation for art, embroidery, crochet, and handcrafted creations, valuing not only the finished pieces but also the intricate details, textures, and craftsmanship behind them.
She also enjoys an active social and cultural life, attending art exhibitions, concerts, social gatherings, and charity events.
However, there was one important detail that the team had to take seriously:
Yo rarely wears jewelry.
This meant our challenge was not simply to create jewelry suitable for a 75-year-old woman. We had to ask ourselves a much more meaningful question:
What would inspire a woman with such a strong personality and distinctive taste to choose to wear something we had designed? Because customer-centered design is not about imposing a designer’s personal preferences on the wearer. It is about understanding what the individual truly values and discovering how our creation can become a meaningful part of their life.
From Collaborative Brainstorming to the Concept of TIMELESS AURA
Once the team had developed a deeper understanding of Yo, the members of CREW CUTTERS came together to brainstorm design directions that would reflect her personality, interests, and life experiences.
We shared a common belief that COOL TO BE GREY should not be about designing jewelry to make older people appear younger.
Instead, it should celebrate and enhance the elegance that naturally develops with age.
After all, time does more than change our appearance. It shapes our abilities, refines our personal tastes, strengthens our confidence, and deepens the way we see and experience the world.

Building on this philosophy, the team chose “the fan” as the central inspiration for the collection.
Thanawat Panachaweng of Charites Gems and Jitapa Auramornrat of Siamwell worked together to develop the design sketches.
Meanwhile, Worapong Junpreuk of Luvia and PonK Pornsmithikul of Ponk Smithi helped evaluate the technical feasibility of the designs, ensuring that the creative concept could be transformed into actual pieces of jewelry.

This collaborative effort gave rise to TIMELESS AURA — Beauty Beyond Time, a jewelry collection that expresses the belief that a person’s elegance is not defined by outward appearance alone, but by the experiences, individuality, and character cultivated throughout a lifetime.
Why the Fan?
The team did not choose the fan simply for its beautiful form. What truly inspired us was the graceful movement of a fan as it unfolds.
When a fan is closed, all its lines come together within a compact space. But as it opens, those lines gradually radiate outward, revealing a wider space and an expanding perspective.

We saw this unfolding movement as a metaphor for personal growth and the journey of life. As we gain more experiences, our perspectives broaden, and our sense of identity becomes increasingly defined.
Rather than directly replicating the shape of a fan in jewelry, the team chose to interpret its underlying design language through radiating lines, expansion, layering, and unfolding forms.
These elements were developed into Statement Earrings, with lines extending outward from the face to enhance the wearer’s presence, complement her personality, and create a distinctive sense of elegance.
Our intention was not to make Yo appear younger, but to allow the elegance of her age and individuality to shine to their fullest.
When Materials Become More Than Just Elements of Beauty
Inspired by Yo’s appreciation for art and craftsmanship, the team placed particular emphasis on the materials, techniques, and textures used in the jewelry.
Each element was thoughtfully selected not only for its aesthetic qualities, but also for its ability to convey meaning and contribute to the story behind TIMELESS AURA.

Gold — Symbolizes the radiance and enduring value accumulated throughout a lifetime.
Mokume-gane — A traditional metalworking technique characterized by intricate layered patterns, representing the depth of experience and wisdom gained over time.
Tsavorite — A vibrant green gemstone symbolizing vitality and a zest for life.
Diamond — Adds brilliance and a distinctive sparkle to the design.
Silver Grey Wood (Rok Fa Wood) — Represents strong foundations and stability, while introducing a contrasting natural texture.
Lily Engraving — Delicate engraved motifs that reflect Yo’s personal interests and appreciation for craftsmanship.
The combination of these materials reflects the belief that the value of craftsmanship lies not only in the beauty of the finished piece, but also in the stories behind its techniques, expertise, and creative process — qualities that particularly resonate with Yo’s appreciation for handcrafted art.
LAYERS OF AURA — Jewelry That Transforms for Different Occasions
TIMELESS AURA was designed around the concept of Layers of Aura, a multi-layered jewelry structure in which each layer features distinctive materials and textures.
The Front Fan combines gold, Mokume-gane, Tsavorite, and Diamonds, creating radiating lines and captivating brilliance.
The Satin Layer introduces a sense of softness, subtlety, and quiet elegance.
Meanwhile, the Wooden Layer incorporates Silver Grey Wood (Rok Fa Wood), enhanced with delicate Lily Engraving details.

The team also incorporated a Detachable Design, allowing certain components to be removed or reassembled to suit different occasions.
For moments that call for understated elegance, the wearer can choose to wear only the front section. For a Gala event or special occasion, additional layers can be attached, transforming the jewelry into a striking Statement Piece.
This versatility was particularly important in addressing one of the challenge’s key considerations: Yo rarely wears jewelry.
Rather than creating something beautiful only for display, the team wanted to design a piece that could genuinely adapt to her wardrobe, lifestyle, and the different occasions she attends.
From Design Sketches to the Craftsmanship Behind the Creation
Beyond developing the concept and design sketches, The Cut Reality also arranged an on-location filming session to showcase the craftsmanship and creative processes behind the jewelry.
CREW CUTTERS sent three representatives to participate:
Supawat Techavorabot of Mahaesak Gems, who presented the gemstone selection process, and PonK Pornsmithikul of Ponk Smithi together with Raphatrada Suebsoh of Pimrapha, who helped demonstrate the craftsmanship involved in creating the jewelry components.

These behind-the-scenes moments highlighted the importance of collaboration between designers, gemstone specialists, and skilled artisans.
Bringing intricate jewelry designs to life requires more than creative vision. Every detail must be carefully considered to achieve the right balance between aesthetic beauty, structural integrity, and production feasibility.
From Jewelry Designed for Yo to the Fine Contemporary Jewelry Market

Beyond the main creation, the team also presented opportunities to expand TIMELESS AURA into a broader range of fine contemporary jewelry pieces, including:
Earrings — THB 490,000
Long Necklace — THB 880,000, crafted in 18K gold and featuring three strands of 8 mm Akoya pearls, diamonds, and natural gemstones.
Brooch — THB 270,000, crafted in 18K gold with diamonds and natural gemstones.

From a business perspective, the team did not position the collection simply as jewelry for older women. Instead, we introduced the concept of “Fine Contemporary Jewelry for Women with a Story.”
The target audience was women aged 50 and above with strong purchasing power, an appreciation for fashion, art, and craftsmanship, and a desire for jewelry that reflects their individuality and personal style.
The business strategy presented to the judges included Limited Collections and Bespoke Services, allowing customers to personalize materials, gemstones, and design details according to their preferences.
Proposed sales channels included Luxury Retail, Private Appointments, and Trunk Shows, offering a more exclusive and personalized jewelry experience.
For marketing, the team envisioned a storytelling-driven approach centered on Yo’s individuality, the craftsmanship behind each creation, and the versatility of the jewelry’s detachable design.
The aim was to communicate a value that extends beyond aesthetic beauty, highlighting the personal stories, artistry, and thoughtful functionality behind each piece.
All of these proposals formed part of the business development concept created by CREW CUTTERS specifically for the competition.
First Place — A Reward Worth More Than Victory

In Challenge 07, Pawaranan Sinlapawanich of Morakot Gallerynand Pattaranida Chaleowpanya of Orithai represented CREW CUTTERS in presenting TIMELESS AURA to the judges.
Joining the judging panel for this round was Yo Tassawan, the very woman who had inspired the collection.
One of the most memorable moments for our team was hearing Yo express her appreciation for the jewelry’s stylish and distinctive design. She also shared that the earrings were lightweight, easy to wear, and comfortable without causing ear pain.
Meanwhile, the judges praised the team’s creative interpretation of the fan’s unfolding structure into a layered jewelry design, as well as the thoughtful incorporation of Rok Fa wood, a type of wood traditionally regarded as auspicious in Thai culture.

In Challenge 07, CREW CUTTERS took first place.
But for us, the most meaningful reward went far beyond scores or rankings. It was the smile on Yo’s face as she wore the jewelry our team had thoughtfully created for her.
Because ultimately, the success of a design is not measured by beauty alone. It lies in creating something that truly understands the wearer, feels comfortable in everyday life, and allows them to feel happy and confident simply being themselves.
Beauty That Evolves with Time
For Be'Shine, being part of CREW CUTTERS in the COOL TO BE GREY challenge gave us an opportunity to reflect on a belief close to our hearts: beauty is not defined by age.
Meaningful jewelry should do more than enhance someone’s appearance. It should reflect their personality, celebrate their confidence, and express who they truly are.
What made designing for Yo particularly inspiring was seeing how, at 75, she continues to embrace art, fashion, and life with curiosity and enthusiasm, enjoying the freedom to express herself without feeling the need to recapture her younger years.
This perspective resonates deeply with what Be'Shine has always believed:
True beauty begins with recognizing and embracing the value within ourselves.
Jewelry does not need to transform someone into a different person. Instead, it can become a meaningful expression of their individuality, allowing their natural beauty and inner brilliance to shine.
Because beauty does not diminish with time. It simply evolves, taking on new forms and gathering richer stories through every chapter of life.
TIMELESS AURA — Beauty Beyond Time
Age is not the end of beauty. It is the beginning of a different kind of beauty.
